The aim of this site is to offer a variety of courses of study on musical subjects for musicians, music teachers, arts administrators and music students.   • Orchestral Conducting For Choral Conductors is a course designed for experienced professional choral conductors who need to learn the musical skills that are specific to orchestral conducting. Topics covered include baton technique, orchestral score reading, score study & analysis, transpositions, orchestration, rehearsal technique, physical conditioning for conductors and orchestral repertoire.

  • This section contains a series of transposition exercises for band and orchestral instruments. Two PDF documents, containing detailed information on orchestral transpositions and chart of the most common transpositions are included. Quizzes can be taken over and over as many times as needed for practice. The score on the final attempt of each quiz is the grade for the assignment.
  • Orchestration For Conductors is a course designed to enable conducting students to understand the many aspects of the art and science of orchestration.

    Unlike most orchestration courses, which focus on teaching the skills needed to become a practicing orchestrator, these materials are designed to provide an overview of how orchestration functions in the orchestral works of different composers and periods, and more importantly, how the study of orchestration can be given practical application in orchestral conducting.

  • Orchestral Works of American Composers - The materials in this mini-course focus on the works of the leading American orchestral composers.

    This course was designed as a resource for conducting students, working conductors and other professionals in the field of orchestral music to assist them with the process of accessing, evaluating and learning orchestral works of American composers.

    By means of the interactive aspect, conductors and students can quickly access recordings and information on a large number of orchestral works. This is an invaluable educational tool for anyone interested in learning the orchestral repertoire.

    Working conductors can utilize this resource to formulate programs, reacquaint themselves with works not recently heard, and introduce themselves to unfamiliar works. Recordings can be replayed any number of times for study or demonstration purposes.

    Students can utilize this resource to learn the orchestral works of American composers by listening and by studying the information provided on each work.
  • Orchestral Repertoire 1: Overtures focuses on 188 overtures by18 leading composers of the orchestral repertoire. This course was designed to assist conducting students, working conductors and other professionals in the field of orchestral music with the process of accessing, evaluating and learning works of the standard orchestral repertoire.

    By means of the interactive aspect, conductors and students can quickly access recordings and information on a vast number of orchestral works. This is an invaluable educational tool for anyone interested in learning the orchestral repertoire.
